Jododaira and Urabandai Excursion

- Volcanic Landscape and Lake District -

This excursion explores the volcanic landscapes around Mount Bandai and the lake district of Urabandai.

At Jododaira, participants will observe landforms created by volcanic activity and walk through wetlands and around Mount Azuma-Kofuji, a small volcanic crater.

After lunch, the group will visit the Urabandai Visitor Center to learn about the natural environment and the history of the 1888 eruption of Mount Bandai.

Participants will then walk along the Goshikinuma Nature Trail, passing a series of colorful volcanic lakes before arriving at Lake Hibara.

Jododaira

Jododaira is a volcanic plateau located at an altitude of about 1,600 meters.

Visitors can observe:

volcanic landforms
alpine wetlands
landscapes shaped by volcanic activity

The area offers dramatic scenery formed by volcanic processes.

Goshikinuma Nature Trail

The Goshikinuma Nature Trail is one of the most famous walking routes in Urabandai.

The trail passes through a group of lakes called Goshikinuma, which were formed by the 1888 eruption of Mount Bandai.

Visitors can enjoy the scenery of mysteriously colored lakes and pristine forests.

The lakes are known for their remarkable colors, which vary depending on mineral content and light reflection.

The water may appear:
emerald green
cobalt blue
turquoise blue

These unique colors are a special feature of the volcanic lakes.

Lake Hibara (Sightseeing Boat)

Lake Hibara was also formed by the 1888 eruption of Mount Bandai.

Visitors can enjoy the scenery from the lakeside or from a sightseeing boat, including views of:

Mount Bandai
the surrounding lake district
the natural landscape of Urabandai

Important Notes for Participants

This excursion will be conducted as a group tour (about 30 participants), so please be punctual.
The daytime temperature at Jododaira is expected to be around 15°C.
Because of the high altitude, the perceived temperature may feel lower.
Please wear comfortable walking shoes.
The schedule may change depending on weather or traffic conditions.
